*sigh* This is exactly what you'd expect from a Michael Bay/Will Smith combo. Car chases, explosions, weak one-liners, slo-mo shots of a bare-chested Smith shooting stereotypical bad guys etc etc. The greatest mystery to me is how on Earth the thoroughly unlikeable and criminally unfunny Martin Lawrence ever became a star?? |

While the chemistry and dialog between Smith and Lawrence is entertaining, the film's plot is cookie cutter at best and that ultimately weighs the movie down and makes it a little boring. Oh yeah, and, like in any good Michael Bay film, lots of stuff blows up. |

Pretty good |
|
Miami Police detectives "Marcus" (Martin Lawrence) and "Mike" (Will Smith) have a problem. The drugs they obtained in the biggest bust of their careers have been stolen. To complicate things, the Kingpin of the gangsters who stole the narcotics (Tchéky Karyo) has killed a former cop (Emmanuel Xuereb) who stole some of the narcotics for himself and a call girl (Karen Alexander), who once dated.
The only witness (Tea Leone) will testify only "Mike", but he is not in the office, and "Marcus" has to pretend he is "Mike" to bring the witness in to identify the killer.
The thing that carries this movie is easily Lawrence and Smith. Because director Michael Bay thought that the script was pretty weak, he had the cast improvise numerous scenes and lines. This actually helped the chemistry... |
