To me Splice is just a cliche horror movie that I forgotten years ago.

It seemed interesting at first. I even put aside totally unconvincing and cold, much more buddy than marital relationship between Polley and Brody, for the sake of their curious experiment, expecting to see some important issues raised. But as everything seemed wrong also from the very start, it couldn't develop better either - movie took wrong turn everywhere it could. I wanted it to instruct, but the main intent of the filmmakers was to shock and please those who perversely desired the movie to go to that direction.

"Splice" by Yojimbo

A pair of genetic biologists succeed in splicing the DNA of various creatures with that of a human being and the resulting life form begins to take over their lives as they try to hide their secret experiment. Splice is very much in the old “mad scientists play God and reap the consequences” school of horror stories, giving the Frankenstein formula a modern sci-fi spin. In fact the story interestingly stays away from the man makes monster idea for the early stages, preferring David Cronenberg style psychological horror, particularly during the rather disturbing Mommie Dearest sequence and when the bizarre sexual ambiguity of their creation becomes apparent. Disappointingly it soon settles back into the usual creature feature for an overly predictable finale which is a shame because …

Splice (2010)

The two lead characters, supposedly brilliant scientists Clive (Adrien Brody) and Elsa (Sarah Polley) take their DNA tampering to the next level by mixing human and animal DNA with disastrous results, as you might expect. The resulting creature Dren (Delphine Chaneac) evolves at an alarming rate into a chrome-domed woman with wings, gills and a very nasty sting at the end of her tail that sprouts out when she gets angry.

After being moved from her laboratory birthplace to the derelict farmhouse of Elsa's childhood, Dren ups the stakes with increasingly unpredictable and dangerous behavior, signaling that things might not end too well. Splice isn't exactly a monster movie, nor is it exactly a horror move but I found myself feeling slightly squeamish midway through some of the scenes, …

I saw this last night, and i myself would have to disagree with the positives listed here. I do admit it's nothing like Alien or Species but it fails to match up to those films in quality. Certainly a few interesting moments here + there, but i found the film to be somewhat dull - even the "shocks" + "twisted" moments.

I think I will check this movie out...it looks a bit interesting. Hey, at least it doesn't star Russell Brand, Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen, or Michael Cera. I just hope there are no annoying cameos by Puff Daddy or a Hilton or a Kardashian.

Despite the poor box office, this is a really good, dark film. It's twisted, and despite looking like Alien or Species or The Fly, is entirely different. It's in a class all on its own - cult status all the way.

Yeah. Should be OK. I wouldn't put any records on it but even Rotten Tomatoes likes it. Not saying they are right but at least someone likes it, unlike Prince of Persia!

Well, Species 1-6 were crap and about a virus from Mars. Splice is man-made "oops" ala Frankenstein, and will have better effects than Species. I'm intrigued and hoping it's a surprise like Pitch Black, which many critics wrote off as a Terminator/Alien copy.
