Just watched this last night. I thought is was great. Firstly, I love period pieces and this one was done very well. Georgina (Keira) marries a Duke (Ralph) and thinks she's going to be very happy. Little does she know that the Duke only marries her to get a heir. She goes through misery and realizes as a woman in that time she really has no rights. She finds happiness with Grey for only a short time before she is given an ultimatum she can't refuse. It's terrible how the Duke treats her and how in the end she endures. I think women will like this movie, but men won't.

A fairly standard period piece, which main things are about oppression of women. There is nothing really special about the film but it is certainly fine. The dialogue is not a stale like many period pieces. The performances are good especially Ralph Fiennes. My problems really are that there is just nothing extremely intriguing it just is slightly interesting. So I recommend it to those who like period pieces and that all really matters. Good: Good performances and well shot. Period well realized. Cons: Nothing special, and standard period piece themes.
