The movie has some good scenes and the acting wasn't all that bad, but the movie is painfully boring and a extremely dull.

I'm thinking this thin story is supposed to have some kind of cathartic meaning, but I couldn't find much beyond the relentless swordplay. In fact, the continous bloodshed is what keeps the film going. It's fine to play, if you just want to have a movie on and not pay much attention.

I'm not really a fan of sword and sorcery epics and this film doesn't help its cause by sporting a murky plot and even murkier action sequences. Many of the action sequences, which should be the coolest part of the movie, happen in darkness and are extremely hard to follow. The other parts of the film are hampered by painfully expository and boring dialogue and some over-the-top acting by Banderas. Not the best of its kind, for sure.
