After centuries of being sealed away, an ancient mummy returns to life and seeks his lover who's been reborn as someone else. Despite the length of the film, the story pretty solid. Most of the characters come off as one-dimensional in the beginning, but they all, to some extent, hold some depth. This is especially true for the female lead who, though a damsel in distress, ends up being stronger than most of the male cast. However, the ending of The Mummy irked me. Once the climax was resolved, the film just ended. There wasn't a sense of closure. I realize The Mummy is early in film history, but storytelling has been around for centuries. I don't understand why they ended it that way. Still, The Mummy is something film fans should see.

The original. Seems like way more than 72 minutes. Dreamy, moody, mysterious. Superior to all the remakes (though the Brandon Fraser one is fun and action-packed). .
