Plot: A British aviator returning from a bombing run during WWII barely escapes the wreckage of his burning plane, but not before making contact with Juna, an USAAF radio operator. Waking up on the surf, he meets and falls in love with June only to learn that he was supposed to die, but was overlooked. This simple premise is executed elegantly and powerfully. Niven and Hunter are very believable protagonists, but the real scene-stealer is Roger Livesey's witty and intelligent doctor, who ends up defending Niven's character in the afterlife. The film wisely focuses on character and creates bold concepts with minimal special effects.
