An unflinching look into effects of peer pressure, and poor decisions, that accompany adolescence. The angst and drama build, as the situations become increasingly more self-destructive. |

A movie about out of control teens that actually manages to present a gritty and realistic look at the pressures and problems faced without seeming sensationalist. First-time writer and actress Nikki Reed does a standout job. |

This is a great movie, well, according to me anyway, coz you'll know I'll love anything that evolves around teenagers - even if they all turn out to be the same common storyline. But this one was different, and at some bits frightening, to see what some teenagers actually put themselves through. I found it really raw and honest, which made it all the more disturbing, what some teenagers put themselves through, even at the age of thirteen.
I was surprised to see Vanessa Hudgens in this movie - she was so young - and her name wasn't even on the cover. of course this was the pre-High School Musical Vanessa Hudgens. Thank God.
If you are a teenage girl, I recommend this movie. |

It's hard to smash so much angst and teenage drama into one film, but Thirteen does a commendable job with some standout performances from the female cast. |

So, have the knack to buy movies on DVD before ever seeing them. It's a bad habit but I've been fortunate with my judgment.
So, after owning this movie for about a year, I finally watched it this weekend. And I was not disappointed.
Of anything, the performances by Evan Rachel Wood and Holly Hunter are commendable. Evan has always impressed me with just about every movie I've seen her in and this movie is no different. She makes the quick transition from average pre-teen to misdirected rebel at a believable pace and that it's not forced.
If you want a teenage angst movie with pretty much every vice imaginable....then this one is it. There are very little things this movie doesn't cover; but it covers them in a realistic way. (And having spent a little time in LA/Hollyw... |
