I've Got This Sinking Feeling About Battleship

After pillaging all the TV shows, hacking through countless remakes and scrounging up every comic book character, Hollywood seems to think that board games are the next ripe target for picking.

I guess Pirates of the Caribbean did OK considering it was based off a theme park ride, but seeing the (very early) synopsis about a fleet of ships facing off on an enemy of unknown (extraterrestrial?) origins - it doesn't seem like Battleship will have much to do with the game aside from the name and having ships.

However, I don't see how putting pegs in a board would translate to the big screen - hopefully they include the line "You sunk my battleship!" but I'm not sure how they could do that without turning into cornball territory.

Despite the inclusion of Alexander Skarsgård and Taylor Kitsch, I'm not sure how Battleship will turn out. If it does well, expect big screen adaptations of Candyland, Monopoly and Mousetrap to follow - because once Hollywood finds something they like, they'll milk it until they drive it into the ground, bury it, then dig it up again just to make sure it's really dead.
