New Movies to Crave: Dark of the Moon will Eclipse Larry Crowne, Monte Carlo

If you weren't one of the many people who have already seen it thanks to pre-screenings, midnight screenings and early shows, most likely you're like me and will watch it over the long, holiday weekend.

1) Of course I'm talking about Transformers: Dark of the Moon the third entry in the series and which will make another boatload of money. Despite having a high disdain for the second one, I'm still going back for thirds. My hopes are not as high - I'm expecting a lot of action, a little plot (hopefully more than the second film) and SOME character coming across out of the actors. I know I'm asking for a lot (this is Michael Bay after all) but can I get something more than standard popcorn action this time around? Here's hoping for the best.

2) Despite having two of the biggest names in acting: Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts, I see Larry Crowne only appealing to a frumpy, middle-aged crowd who find Transformers too loud or vulgar. I expect quite a few of these older couples in attendance, but I'm guessing that's not going to be enough to light up the box office. Also, it seems to be maligned by critics, so that's not helping things either.

3) Finally, in an effort to counter the testosterone of Transformers, Monte Carlo looks to attract a younger female audience. It's a bold move, but once again I think the target audience is going to be much to small to make that big of impact on the box office. If it even breaks the top 5, I would be impressed.

With the 4th of July long weekend ahead, I'll probably be back on Tuesday with the full report where I'll probably let you know just how much Transformers pulled in.
