Do you crave some action or a something a little more spooky? If you want something that's not going to be on Oscar's radar, or have already sampled the nominees, two new entries will try to shake things up over the weekend.
1) First, Anthony Hopkins takes a trip down Exorcist Lane as he prepares for The Rite. In this "based on true events" film, Hopkins is a priest who travels to Italy to learn first hand just what exorcisms are really about. Scariness ensues. Sure, you have a big gun with Hopkins on board, but the whole exorcism thing has been done to death. Can't say my thrill meter is peaking.
2) On the other hand, if you don't want to think real hard, just watch bullets and good old fashioned explosions, Jason Statham is here to save your day. This pretty much looks like another variation on his formula - a little Transporter here, a little Cranked there - but if you like mindless action, you can't go wrong with Statham at all.
We'll see if either of the new films can make any waves at the box office and if the Oscar contenders can continue to put up impressive numbers.
