Cold Pursuit and More in This Week's MPAA Ratings Bulletin

By Chris Kavan - 01/09/19 at 10:54 AM CT

After a nice, long two-week vacation for the MPAA Ratings Board, you would think they would return with a plentiful bounty of amazing new releases to get excited about... but you would be ever-so wrong. Nope, despite the quite long break there is just a single wide release in this week's bulletin, starring Liam Neeson and, wouldn't you know it, he's playing yet another character out for revenge. Yes, it's Mr. Plow combined with Death Wish and, no, I'm not making that up. Other than that, however, it's slim pickings for the first bulletin of the year. Let's hope things pick up from here.

My description of Cold Pursuit as mentioned above is certainly on point. Liam Neeson plays Nels, a kindly snow-plow driver in the glitzy resort town in the Rockies, recently awarded "Citizen of the Year" for essentially keeping the roads clear, and the town running, when the snow hits. But Nels is about to show a very different side when his son is murdered by a drug lord and he uses his certain set of "hunting" skills to enact revenge - a revenge which also stokes the fires of drug war between two rival factions. I mean, it sounds like a perfect fit for Neeson whose action career is impressive from fighting wolves in The Grey to protecting his family by any means in the Taken series to fighting conspiracies in The Commuter. The man can fight it all and Cold Pursuit is a yet another addition to his "badass" filmography. Sure, I realize most of these characters are simply re-skins of each other, but, hey, if it works, it works - and why mess with a good thing? Rated R for strong violence, drug material and some language including sexual references.
