Captive State and More in This Week's MPAA Ratings Bulletin

Sigh - a familiar pattern is emerging, and one that leaves me with naught to do but hope for better. Once again, I'm faced with the stark reality of only being able to talk about one new wide release this week but at least this time it's a much more intriguing film. It's an interesting take on being occupied by enemy forces, so at least there's that. That's all you get, again, but I hold out hope that one of these weeks I'll get to flex some writing muscles. They're not atrophied yet, but the board needs to step up their game.

The one new entry is a futuristic sci-fi thriller Captive State. The film is set in Chicago, in a future in which extraterrestrial forces have taken control of the city and we pick up about a decade after the fact. The film follows people one both sides of the occupying force - those who fight against them and those who collaborate with them. The film boasts an impressive cast including John Goodman, Vera Farmiga, Madeline Brewer, Alan Ruck, D.B. Sweeney, James Ransone, Kevin Dunn and Machine Gun Kelly (also known as Colson Baker). Rupert Wyatt, best known for Rise of the Planet of the Apes and the Mark Wahlberg-led The Gambler, is directing. There's still not a lot to go on here, but at least the film is taking a chance on skipping the actual alien invasion and giving us a glimpse of life after - for worse, I'm guessing, rather than better. It looks interesting at least. Rated PG-13 for sci-fi violence and action, some sexual content, brief language and drug material.

There you go - one more for the books and just one more. Well, one more worth talking about at length anyway - the full MPAA Ratings Bulletin is below:
