New Movies to Crave: It's the Afterlife or Nothing

With only one movie opening in wide release, you better like action and zombies or it may be a good week to catch up on something you missed the first time around.

1) Resident Evil: Afterlife - The fourth film in the Resident Evil series hits theaters this week. Once again, I'm sure Milla Jovovich will kick all kinds of zombie and human ass. I'm interested to see how they incorporate popular game character Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine (played by Wentworth Miller and Sienna Guillory) into their unique version of events. Like the other movies in this series, I'm sure I'll catch it on video eventually, but I'm not exactly burning to watch on a really big screen.

2) I'm Still Here - Despite opening only in limited release, this faux-documentary... or is it? about Joaquin Phoenix and his quest to become a legitimate rapper, looks to be either a brilliant mockery ala Spinal Tap or a sad, sad fall of a once-talented actor. It's also been labeled self-indulgent and rambling with most of the film showing Phoenix smoking weed and abusing lackeys whilst performing, badly. If nothing else, I at least want to know how it all turns out.

3) The Virginity Hit - Finally, trying to make its name in the long line of teen sex comedies is a new challenger. The Virginity Hit takes the hand-held video approach, but instead of monsters or ghosts, this time they're trying to capture their friends first sexual conquest. It may or may not be good, but with a modest budget, even in a smaller release it will probably do okay.

There are plenty of other limited releases coming out - to check out if any movies are opening in your area, visit the FilmCrave New Movie Releases page today. Next week The Town really does come out, along with the comedy Easy A, the kid-friendly Alpha and Omega and the thriller Devil so it should be the best week for movies in quite awhile.
