The 'war' movie genre, as a whole, is hit-or-miss for me. Some are long, drawn out, and preachy. Other's are action heavy and dramatically overbearing. 'Patton' is a special case. It is a long endeavor, with much war violence, but it's true ambition is being a well written and performed character study. The film's ability to combine all these elements in entertaining fashion is why I hold it in higher regard. George C. Scott's terrific performance is the central aspect of the film. Without him, this wouldn't be half as good.

A rare war drama that manages to mix both action-packed battle scenes along with strong character development - and do it well. George C. Scott's performance is pretty incredible, and he carries this biography of Gen. George Patton for nearly 3 hours. Yeah, that sounds like a long time, but the film moves along pretty well. There's a good supporting cast but the star of the show is Scott, who gives probably one of the best performances on film of the last 50 years.

If you can sink your teeth into this lengthy biography, it's very involving and interesting. George C. Scott gives a fully-nuanced portrayal of the great General Patton and is easily the highlight of the film. The battle scenes are exciting, but this is a film that isn't afraid to explore military tactic or personal conviction and doesn't rely solely on action for its success.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I just saw this classic for the 1st time. I'm sorry it took me this long to watch it. It's a very well told story about a very controversial WWII general. George C. Scott is fantastic in this role. His acting stood the test of time. The supporting cast is also very good, and the story is well told. This film will take you back in time and remind you what a good film actually is.

A great war film. George C. Scott makes this film - he portrays Patton like he was born for the role. The battle scenes look good even today. May drag on for just a bit, but this is one film that shouldn't be missed.

A little winded at times, but other times it is absolutely great. Scott is perfect for the role and this movie was pretty deserving of the best picture Oscar for 1970. If you love war movies, see this!
