Burned out ex serviceman Denzel Washington takes a job protecting young Dakota Fanning in Mexico City: kidnap capital of the world. Denzel of course grows to love his tiny charge, finding new meaning in life yadda yadda until...gasp! She's KIDNAPPED!! (I know! I never saw that one coming either!!) Yes, this workmanlike plot combined with the hugely predictable twists and garish colour filters all make this look like a big screen version of CSI: Miami, one of my least favourite TV shows of all time. But I must admit, the earlier scenes as Den and Dakota get to know each other work quite nicely and have a genuine warmth about them. The pacing is also pretty good considering its length and watching Denzel go bad-ass is always fun. But once again, Tony bloody Scott is his own worst enemy and …

This movie was worth watching. It lasts longer than 2 hours, one of the things that surprised me about this movie. I think the casting was excellent. The storyline was unexpected. I never saw many ads for this movie and only wanted to see it because I think Denzel Washington is one of the best actors in America today. I have always been disappointed that he had to win his Academy Award in Training Day. This movie makes up for it, and I think it redeems him as a good actor. (I think everyone will agree that Training Day was not his best effort as an actor.) This movie appears to be filmed entirely on location in Mexico City. Many views of the city are presented. You see the very affluent neighborhoods and the very poor neighborhoods. In Mexico, you are either in poverty or rich. There are …

Confusing editing makes the movie barely watchable

A soldier of fortune (Denzel Washington) has reluctantly taken the job of protecting a young girl (Dakota Fanning) in Mexico City, Mexico. The two become really close, and he lightens his mood until she is kidnapped. He then goes on a rampage to find her -- by any means necessary.
This has to be one of the weirdest edited movies I have ever seen. There are way too many quick edits that can make scenes fairly confusing. There is also some of the most interesting subtitles I've seen in movies as they are not stuck at the bottom of the screen like normal.
Another problem is the lack of scenes that show the relationship between the girl and her parents. Also, Christopher Walken is not in the movie enough.
