A Bit Too Long

I liked this film but I can't give this movie a three stars out of four stars because there were more than a handful of scenes that dragged on which resulted to a two-hour running time. This is not your typical romantic comedy that was portrayed in the trailers. Instead, this film is about a man's addiction to poker and how he ruins his life and those people's lives that choose to associate with him. The poker scenes were absorbing because I'm a poker fan (although I'm not an expert). Eric Bana, Drew Barrymore, and Robert Duvall did the best they could with what they've been given. Still, I thought they could've done more with Debra Messing's character because she looks great and I miss her from "Will and Grace." With a little bit more editing and taking off scenes that are unnecessary …

Not a good movie. In a world where you can't watch ESPN 2 for more than 5 minutes without seeing at least part of a World Poker Tour... this movie acts like it's introducing poker to the world for the first time. For those of you who know nothing about poker? Don't worry, they waste two hours of your life trying to teach you about poker all the while forgetting that movies aren't supposed to suck. It's time for someone to tell Drew Barrymore the truth. America loves you too much to tell you your acting ability peaked in E.T. Now to the (small) credit of the performers there were spurts of decent acting and storyline that gave this movie some legs. Albeit they were those fat, stubby dwarf legs that you find intriguing enough to stare at but don't really want to.
