Ridley Scott's dark fantasy epic has its detractors and it's easy to see why. The inspiration in its visuals and sets overwhelmingly exceeds the inspiration in its writing, dialogue, and plot. But "Legend" isn't without its pleasures. With imagination abound, it holds your attention well enough to look past a vague story and underdeveloped characters.

A dark fantasy movie with some comedy added to it.

This was a childhood movie for me, and I went back to watch it recently. It still holds up to what I remember about it. I think it's very well done for a dark fantasy. There are three things that make this movie for me: 1) The fantastic musical score. 2) The look of the fictional world. 3) Tim Curry as Lord Darkness, who scared the crap out of me when I was six. Blix: "Black as midnight. Black as pitch. Blacker than the foulest witch."

The kind of beautiful visuals you'd expect from Ridley Scott and the production design is very nice, but the cliched plot is paper thin and the acting suspect. Pretty, but vacuous. Like a cinematic version of Jennifer Lopez.

'Legend' has the exact look of a Disney fairy tale come to life. There is true artistic imagery present in the set design, costumes, make-up, f/x, etc. The look of this film has an immersive quality that really hasn't been seen since. The only major flaw here is the story, or lack thereof. There's a simple plot present, but no world building with use of mythology or other devices. It's essentially borrowed pieces from many different fairy tale films just kind of thrown together to little effect. The film lacks it's own identity. Magical in looks... and not much else.

I love this movie, fairytale and beautiful sets and cinematography. Ridley Scott did a great job directing. This is a classic - good vs evil, its fun and Tim Curry does a great job playing Darkness.

I remember seeing this film many years ago i presently own it on vhs when it first came out on release in the UK and buying it on dvd soon. This is such stuff as dreams are made of. This is Legend Plot A young man must stop the Lord of Darkness from both destroying daylight and marrying the woman he loves. Best Quotes 1 Oona: What care I for human hearts? Soft and spiritless as porridge! A faerie's heart beats fierce and free! 2 Blix: Mortal world turned to ice... Here be goblin paradise! 3 The Lord of Darkness: Oh, Mother Night! Fold your dark arms about me. Protect me in your black embrace. I sit alone, an impotent exile, whilst this form, this presence, returns to torment me!

You should see the Director's Cut... Surprisingly, a film that really left an indelible image on me for most of my life. I really loved this film when I was a kid and rewatching recently certainly was a treat. I watched the Director's Cut of this movie with the original music and it is absolutely incredible to know that they got rid of this soundtrack before its release. The soundtrack for the Director's Cut just works so well with the film, it's as though it plays with the movie. I really loved this movie because of the way it was done, not to mention that Tim Curry plays his part brilliantly. For anyone who enjoys fantasy, I'm sure this is already a cult classic in your mind, and if it isn't, it damn well should be.

As a Kid, this movie blew me away with the originality, music and scope of the young actors. Looking at it now, I never really realized that Tom Cruise was the star just 2 years before "Top Gun." A fantasy lovers delight. See it.
