Natty, a twelve year old girl and her father are on their own during the Depression. When Natty's father has to leave her while he looks for work in another state, Natty runs away from her guardian to follow her father. While she travels west, she rescues a wolf who becomes her travel companion. When the train she was on derails, Natty's father is informed that she is dead. Out of despair, her father volunteers for the most dangerous position at his work. Can Natty survive the dangers of life on the road and get to her father in time? |
