The film itself is rather hackneyed, but Illeana Douglas turns in a brilliant performance. I've added an extra half-star for her. For a better (though quite different) Allison Anders film about the music business, try "Sugar Town."

Loosely or not so loosely based on Carole King, this is a good movie with good music. I am thankful for the chance to see it and hope more movies like this can be made, and if the director is Allison Anders, all the better. I found it at my library! :) :)
