XX - Review

"XX" is one of the most embarrassing piece of shit I've seen this year. Never have I been so bored and yet dumbfounded of how clunky the film making is.

This is another anthology film, but it's too bad nothing connects to each other. Only thing in common is that it's horror. But here's the thing, the movie can't decide what it's trying to be interns of tone. Couldn't tell if it's a black comedy or a horror film. If the answer is both then the film failed hard, because those clash of tones mix with poor film making hurt the movie badly. One segment you get something super serious, but then the next segment is so goofy and silly, it's like I'm watching a different movie.

The segments themselves are not scary or creepy. And what is up with that stop-motion animation. Literate...

XX Marks the Spot for Female-Driven Horror

Horror anthologies have experienced a resurgence recently with the likes of Trick 'r Treat, The ABCs of Death and V/H/S proving that you don't need to go full-length to find effective horror. There is also a nice, creepy intro and interstitial from Sofìa Carrillo that adds to the flavor. While overall I felt there could have been more horror, the four stories stand on their own and if you are a fan of the horror anthologies, XX is a solid add to the collection.

The first, and arguably best, of the shorts is "The Box", directed by Jovanka Vuckovic. Adapted from a story from horror author...

Some great ideas, way too soft to be called horror

"Are you taking any of this seriously? Of course I am. I'm their mother."

"XX" is an anthology labeled as horror, but it isn't really terrifying. There is no real connection between the four stories. At first, I thought it was always about a mother figure with the day-to-day problems and family situations. But the third story came with a very different theme. After that I assumed it was perhaps because a female character played the main role in every story. But afterwards, the short content on IMDb made it clear that it was about four short stories written and directed by women. Well, I wasn't too far off.

The most fascinating and in a way terrifying story, wasn't saved as an apotheosis this time. The first story "The Box" is really the most creepy stor...
