Jackie - Review

"There comes a time in man's search for meaning when he realises that there are no answers. And when you come to the horrible and unavoidable realization, you accept it or you kill yourself. Or you simply stop searching".

I'm lost not with words, but what I just watch. What a cold and haunting film that takes grief further like another best picture nominee we know. It's pretty scary and I can't explain why. The gloomy atmosphere and how psychological it can be, you could call it a horror film. Mica Levi amazing score that still plays in the back of my head after a few days, is one key factor of the horror-like atmosphere. Or it might be the cinematography which was just terrific and well stage for some truly unforgettable moments.

Jackie - who is the only reason to watch 'Jackie'

Well this is awkward. I was really looking forward to JACKIE (2016) but I was unfortunately disappointed. Now, don't get me wrong.Natalie Portman nails the role perfectly. She's amazing and honesty one of the sole redeeming factors for the movie. The other is the cinematography which is at once stark but strangely beautiful in its rigidity. Everything from the sets to the costumes to the staging of certain scenes is immaculately mounted. But at the same time, it's artificial due to the plot being nonlinear and using a conversation between two people as a framing device. The gloomy tone is appropriate but sometime the film threatens to become overwhelmed by its own self induced melancholia. If this sounds like the film doesn't go anywhere, I'll give it this. The third act picks the hell up...
