Richard Linklater's 12 years in the making film is astounding for its production achievement and relatable thanks to its lifelike characters and problems.

This movie was sorely in need of editing. It was way too long. I enjoyed it more in the beginning. Later, I couldn't wait for it to end. Overrated.

Aside from the 12-year production. Nothing else is special.

A most ambitious project from Richard Linklater - a film 12 years in the making following the life of Mason - along with his family. Though there is some pacing issues, the film is a brilliant portrayal of this life. I especially like the use of the music, along with cultural touchstones (9/11, Harry Potter, elections, technology) to place you in that moment of time. It doesn't try to make this life look amazing or magical - it's just life, warts and all - casting is great, emotion high and though I preferred the first half over the second myself, as a whole, it's an excellent film deserving of its accolades.

There were a few false notes at the beginning, plus I was struck by how steadily upwardly mobile the parents were -- that's not how I remember the last 15 years. But overall, I really enjoyed this. It was almost more like watching Michael Apted's Up documentaries than an ordinary film, but I've always loved those. A very ambitious project, and I'm surprised and delighted by how well it paid off.

I can´t say it´s excellent because I felt it too slow, but it´s excellent. it´s our life in the big screen. The director did a great job portraying our daily (and boring and routine) life in there. And the soundtrack is amazing.
