Pretty entertaining for all the wrong reasons. It'd be great to do a MST3000 of this. John Cameron Mitchell is a competent director. Too bad this just isn't his type of movie. It didn't have the verve of Hedwig and the Angry Inch or the character development of Shortbus. Hopefully he learns his lesson and does better next time around. You couldn't expect the actions to come from these characters unless they were insane and demented - and they were not supposed to be. Dianne Wiest gives the best performance, perhaps, especially in one scene where she is supposed to be drunk.

"Rabbit Hole" is a drama of how a couple deals with the lost of their son. Becca (Nicole Kidman), the mother, trying to figure out what she must do with all the memories of their lost son turned out to be incapable of giving what his husband (Aaron Eckhart) should be receiving from a wife. Howie, the father, with Becca's negligence [as his wife] is seeking refuge on the outside from grief. Without a doubt, Kidman and Eckhart performed really well -the reason why I like this film. Writing and direction were just both okay.

This could have been a depressing and weighted down film, but, instead, it is a surprisingly hopeful and honest portrayal of a couple coping with grief. The performances are raw and realistic and don't feel forced. There are some incredibly quiet emotional moments and I liked how the film just lets the themes and emotions sit with you rather than trying to flashily forcefeed them to you. The score also stood out to me as really adding to the punch this film packs.

A strong adaptation of David Lindsay-Abaire's powerful play, Rabbit Hole tells the story of a couple dealing with their grief over the death of their young son. The performances by Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart as the couple are some of the best of their respective careers. Their emotion is so raw and honest that you fully believe what these characters are going through. Dianne Wiest also gives a great supporting performance as the grandmother dealing with the grief in her own way. There's some very heavy stuff here, but it's one of the more honest portrayals of what a family goes through in a traumatic event. Be prepared for some serious dramatic stuff.
