Sword-and-sandal action movie with a surprisingly good script. The dialogue is sometimes witty and more politically astute than it needs to be. Jeffrey Hunter makes for a resilient hero and the villains are appropriately conniving. It's too bad the action scenes are not shot very well. The exception being a tense opening scene involving a bridge, a rock-slide, and a giant wheel.
