Tense claustrophobic thriller about a grizzled sea-captain (Jurgens) who specializes in slave trading only for his last voyage to result in an uprising. Things are complicated by his slave mistress (Dandridge) siding with her fellow countrymen, tugging at his hardened soul. There are some good moments in Tamango and its racial politics are interesting for its date of release. The ending is surprisingly but perhaps appropriately bleak.
