Like the other films in the series, this is a little repetitive (silent samurai dispatches a series of villains in cartoonishly gory ways), but there are a lot of quieter moments between the father and son that gives a lot of scenes great emotional weight. There are also some iconic images and framings that you can tell influenced later "shock" action film directors such as Tarantino or Rodriguez (particularly the way the blood sprays out like a garden hose, a la Kill Bill.)
