A breakthough regarding recent war-themed movies, The Hurt Locker is a stunning and suspenseful film about a bomb squad in Baghdad nearing the end of their rotation. As they struggle daily with dangerous situations, a new sergeant joins the squad and immediately changes the dynamic for all involved. The cinematography makes you feel as if you are in Iraq yourself. There's a variety of emotions, what got me the most is the men involved who are embracing their duty as this is all they have in life. My only complaint is a situation near the end, when the characters do something that would rival any stupid decision in a teen horror movie, but other than that, it's easily one of the best of the year.

Not sure what the big fuss is. I'm not crazy about war movies, but there is little more than explosions and character arcs and people coming to grips with the reality of war. It might sound enlightening, but it's really nothing more than the same stuff we've seen over and over.
