Denzel is again great as the bad guy, this time a drug trafficker who learns to cut out the middle man and under-sell the competitor to make millions. Great pacing and fantastically shot, the movie is one of the best of the year.

I never ever liked gangster movies. Not until now, I suppose my taste in movies gets better in time. What's not to like about this movie. You've got great actors, a very good script, a perfect period in time and who better to helm this masterpiece than Ridley Scott. Powerful acting is the bread and butter of this movie. Also you have the 70’s disco swinging beats in the background which absolutely takes you into that specific place in time. This must be the best and only gangster film I would ever like

Blow, Goodfellas, Casino, The Godfather, Scarface, and a few other's all share similar plots and end results to AG. This is a good movie, but does nothing different than those listed above. Crowe and Washington are great, but not special.

I wondered whether the movie would work with 2 strong actors in Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe sharing the screen. Ridley Scott pulls it off well, of course it could be that the two of them hardly share any screen time, but he intertwines Washington's rise as a drug lord and Crowe's investigation well. I was surprised at the end when I saw two and a half hours had passed, the movie didn't seem that long. I really had no complaints - a good cast (I really liked Ruby Dee as Denzel's mom) and strong direction will usually equal a good film.

Lucky enough to see an advance showing of this and man is it a great freakin' movie. I'm a huge gangster movie fan and this really is probably the best gangster movie I've seen since Casino. It has a pretty standard crime movie plot but it's the craft of this one that elevates it above most other films in the genre. I have issues with Ridley Scott sometimes (see the #1 movie on my worst ever list for proof) but he's hit it out of the park with this one. The cast is astounding, the script is wonderful, the music is great, and it flows like a dream. If you like gangster pictures or crime films in general GO SEE THIS MOVIE. You won't be disappointed.
