Forgetting Jason Segal's Marshall

joshow - wrote on 09/18/2009

To be completely honest, I went into this movie expecting to thoroughly trash it as soon as I walked out. I thought it was destined to be another cheesy rom-com with a predictable ending and terrible acting. I was wrong. Little did I know, this was another Judd Apatow produced comedy, and almost everything he’s touched over the past three years has turned into pure gold, including “The 40 Year Old Virgin”, “Knocked Up” and “Superbad”. “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” is no exception.

Jason Segal of “How I Met your Mother” fame, stars as a lovable but lazy music composer for a CSI-esque television drama. After his famous girlfriend (Kristen Bell) dumps him, he decides to take a vacation to Hawaii to deal with it. Little does he know, that his ex-girlfriend is …

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Forgetting Sarah Marshall is another laugh out loud film from the guys who made The 40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up and Superbad. This one is very fun, often hilarious and pretty well acted. Jason Segel is good in his film starring role, he's funny and quite charismatic as well. Kristen Bell is good but her role (as the title character), seems really short. Mila Kunis is very good and extremely charming, giving her best film role to date as the sweet receptionist who nobody's fooling. However, The standout of the film is Russell Brand who steals every second of every scene he's in and actually seems to have been given the funniest material. The Supporting characters such as Johan Hill, Jack Mcbrayer, Davin Mcdonald and especially Paul Rudd, are funny as well. ...oh, The Direction and …

Apatow's Best One Yet.

Just thought I would squeeze in a quick dvd review before the long weekend. I missed this one in theatres but was able to catch it on dvd.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall is a crude take on romances/relationships, and is probably Apatow's best comedy flick yet. I did not like Superbad. The 40 year old virgin, which I've seen atleast 20 times, gets under your skin. But Sarah Marshall is easily Apatow's best one yet. Or atleast I think. It's easy to tell it's from the Apatow library of comedies, with all the dirty crude sex jokes, and adult humor.

the 2 hour movie consists of peter, the main character lying on the floor of his expensive hawain suite crying his sad ass off, and crappy green screening, which happen to be quite funny. Oh yeah, the characters are done pretty well.

If your a …

So Hilar--!

Judd Apatow is building quite an empire. I think this is one of the best ensemble cast of the year because they made this film consistently funny from beginning to end. Although this film reminded me of the tragic "The Heartbreak Kid," this is infinitely better because it is bona fide in its humour and it has a big heart. Jason Segel's nudity is hilarious but despite that, it could serve as a metaphor because the audience really did see his character for who he is, his failures and successes. I'm glad Kristin Bell's character is not made to be the "villain" of the story. It's close to real life because the audience eventually discover why she broke up the relationship (and for good reasons). Jonah Hill and Russell Brand are nothing short of hilarious. Paul Rudd is great as always. …

Forget this movie......... NOT

It was weird seeing someone write about his own personal experience and I guess that is why this brand of comedy works. Jason Segel as a writer/actor maintained the realness of the main character since it is somewhat based on him. I don't usually go for adult humor but with good timing and delivery plus a solid cast to do it is like watching magic blossomed on screen. By the way it is good to see Mila Kunis in a different light and just shine every time she's on cam. I really think she turned into this beautiful vixen after being out of the spot light for so long. Almost everything about this movie is right on the money, from the story to the characters and the perfect blending of subtlety and humor. Years from now I’m pretty sure Jason aka Marshall will be replacing Adam Sandler in …

Don't forget to see Sarah Marshall!

What a pleasant suprise!

I love it when I go to a movie that I didn't particularly want to see, then it turns out to be really good. Or better yet, when I didn't want to see it because something about it didn't interest me (the story, the cast, etc.) and not only did it turn out to be really good, but it also slapped my expectations in their face.

Nearly a week later, I cannot tell you why I thought "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" was so good. However, I can tell you that it was consistently funny from start to finish. (My film-going experience has taught me that most comedies cannot sustain the laughs and, more times than not, completely disappoint with their endings.)

By far, this is the best movie from the Judd Apatow school of frank, adult-oriented, epic-length comedy. I'm …

Slim but solidly funny

As has been common with recent comedies, Segel and director Nicholas Stoller strive to create a film that’s not just about the laughs. And although it does contain a level of sweetness and sincerity that is still surprising in such a raunchy comedy, it is no more genuine or sweet than an average romantic comedy. Peter is a flawed character, but the negative effect his behavior has on people is touched on all too briefly. And aside from the always affirming “stop worrying and just live life” sentiment, the film is primarily successful in making jokes.

And the film is funny. Very funny. Segel already has gotten notices for his daring full-frontal nudity (which begins mere minutes into the film), but as a leading man he’s a bit on the bland side. He handles the jokes extremely …
