300 Lacks Something

[Update: I saw this movie again. It is a pure action movie. For that, I have changed my rating to 3 stars. Entertaining.]
Runtime: 117 minutes. Actual runtime: 65 minutes. Almost half of the movie was shot in slow motion. That is a little excessive. I admit there were some cool slow mo battle scenes but the beginning and uninteresting scenes do not need slow motion attached to make it cool.
Don't get me wrong, I liked this movie to a certain extent. It is amazing to me that with virtually 0 character development, I actually cared for the Spartans. Gerard Butler does a great job of speaking his mythical words and the rest of the cast does what they are supposed to. The cinematography is good (with the exception of the over excessive Mel Gibson slow motion), and action scenes …

What starts off slow, continue to build and build until you feel like you should be on the front lines, spearing some hapless opponent. With battle after bloody battle coming at you, you can't help but get caught up in the action.
Zack Snyder, who caught my attention with a a better than expected Dawn of the Dead remake, proves that he knows a good action scene and he isn't afraid to make it over-the-top bloody with flying limbs and decapitations. 300 doesn't lack for getting the blood pumping. Whether it's a rhino running full speed or a writhing, near-nude "oracle" the scenes in 300 never fail to visually impress.

Beautiful blood bath with bad ass Spartans

An action inspired battle movie meets comic book madness. This is what 300 is all about! Bloody battle after bloody battle the special effects and directing are both beautiful and awe inspiring at times. Occasionally the blood spatters and giant foes go over the top but for the most part it is very well done and welcome.
My only real complaints with the movie is that it was a bit predictable, the narrator hurt the momentum and there was no emotions in this film. With this said, the acting was decent and Gerard Butler, King Leonidas, was very commanding and played the role of a fearless king very well. The narration helped explain the background of the film but would come at times where the battles just finished and the tension should be building. The tension probably would have been …
