At times, this Turkish film dives into overly-dramatic soap opera territory, but it manages to craft an engaging and thoughtful portrait of a man trying to escape his past. The action sequence that concludes the film only works because of the character and thematic development that leads up to it (otherwise, it would be a pointless bloodbath). Lead actor Sener Sen has the right balance of gravity and wisdom to anchor the film. Could have done without some of the sappy romantic subplots, but, as a story of redemption and inevitability, this is one of the better films to come out of Turkey.
