Mirror

1975, coincidentally, was the year where two giants of cinema decided to construct an autobiographical manifesto of extremely gigantic proportions that paralleled their respective pasts with the nostalgic history of the Soviet Union and Greece: Andrei Tarkovsky (Zerkalo) and Theodoros Angelopoulos (O Thiasos). Whereas the latter had a massive approach of political turmoil, Tarkovsky's fourth film (and, consequently, fourth masterpiece) is a haunting testament of indescribable beauty, breathtaking stillness and complete mysticism. Our Daily Free Stream: Andrei Tarkovsky - The Mirror (engl. subt.). Das klassische Autorenkino der 60er schien den grössten seiner Zunft ein Mini Genre vorzuschreiben: Fellini, Godard, Truffaut oder Tarkovsky, jeder hat mal einen Film gedreht, der von ihm selbst handelt. Ich habe die DVDs euch in der Filmkunstbar Fitzcarraldo oben in unserer Galerie ausgestellt. Heute zeigen wir Zerkalo: Die verlorene Zeit, in seinem persönlichsten und unverstandendsten Film versucht Andrei Tarkovsky sie zu rekonstruieren. Seine persönlichen Erinnerungen verbindet er mit Fragmenten der russischen Geschichte zwischen den 30er und 70er Jahren, so dass Zerkalo wirkt, als sei der Film in einem Spiegelkabinett montiert worden. Die poetischen Passagen aus Träumen und Erinnerungen wechseln sich ab mit Archivmate...
