"A man writes because he is tormented, because he doubts. He needs to constantly prove to himself and the others that he's worth something. And if I know for sure that I'm a genius? Why write then? What the hell for?" "Stalker" is a disturbing masterpiece from brilliant Tarkovsky. The movie really scared the hell out of me for some reason. The dreamlike atmosphere and the intentional slow scenes, sets up this unnatural feeling I've never had before. It's visual poetry of both desire and dullness in Tarkovsky world. You could say it's the grey version of "The Wizard of Oz".

Like most Tarkovsky films, Stalker raises all kinds of issues about spirituality, the psyche, and human emotions. The pseudo-post-apocalyptic setting is fascinating, but it is the thoughtful undercurrent of dialogue that distinguishes the movies as a "thinking" sci-fi film. Needs a second and third viewing to fully understand.

The stalker is that man that you don't pay attention to. Because he's so common... so... mediocre. In a way of speaking. BUT... he has this ability. Same happend with some of us. We seem to be normal but we end up surrounded by the best. And, this man leads to what it seems gather the very foundations of human being. A writer and a scientist :0) The movie is hypnotic. The music is involving it's like an ivy. The shots are marvelous, just as Tarkovsky has used to. Awesome script and hopeful ending makes this masterpiece the best sci-fi movie ever to me.
