An American classic from the terrific Billy Wilder, "Double Indemnity" is a most perfect noir, much like Otto Preminger's "Laura" that was released the same year.

Billy Wilder at his most deceitful and treacherous. A sexy representation of the iconic femme fatale and man's ambition and lust impulses given certain circumstances. Expertly shot like a Hitchcock magnum opus, Double Indemnity is a top notch and spectacular film-noir. 98/100

classic noir, Stanwyck and MacMurray sizzle, the hollywood bowl and schubert's 8th........ plus i'm a patsy for a movie with a great confession scene (and this one has two)...actually one.. in two parts.

It's hard to go wrong with the combo of billy wilder and raymond chandler, but I think the print I was watching was a little lackluster. the amazing dialogue more than made up for it, though.

One of my favorite Billy Wilder movies in which a man is seduced into more trouble then he would have ever wished for.

Superb noir written and directed by Billy Wilder. This tightly constructed story expertly tells the exploits of two cynical aspiring criminals, as they become entrapped by their seemingly 'perfect' murder. All the hallmarks of the genre are played out with wit, tensity, and splotches of dark humor. It's evilly entertaining to watch this plan disintegrate.

This is a noir with a dark sense of comic timing (and wit that evidences Billy Wilder's later talent). It's competently shot and Fred McMurray and Barbara Stanwyck have great snarling and steamy chemistry.

Arguably the genesis of film noir, 'Double Indemnity' manages to be taut and tidy with neither an astringent nor inane design.
