Plot: Gu Zidi is officer in the People's Liberation Army during Chinese Civil War and is sent to prison for breaking orders. He and friend Wang are freed from army prison to go back to battle. Gu is in charge of securing a mine and to defend the rest of the company's flank. He is ordered not to retreat his men until he hears a bugle call. The unit is soon surrounded by the enemy. Gu and Wang (mortality wounded) are the last ones standing and they decide to blow the mine to protect the bodies of their fallen comrades laid deep inside. Gu wakes up in a hospital where he is believed to be a POW. There are no records of his unit, their brave actions or proof that he is an ally. He spends his life trying to prove his story and his unit's sacrifice.
