Why the Rehash?!

I was about 1/4 through this film when I realized that I already knew the main story, because it's been explained to us in the first Underworld movie. WTF! If we all know the story, then what's the point of making it last an hour and a half. Since this story takes place before the other two, why not have made this one first? Dull characters, tired motives, cliche plot elements, and a main story that more than half of this films audience is familiar with are the only things going on in this film. Oh yea, and a bunch of werewolves getting hacked up by midevel styled vampires.
