Nothing to care about.
2/4 stars

Reds is a problematic film and its enjoyment relies really on your own political convictions. Since much of the film is about the divisions of the American socialist party, I doubt many people would care about it unless they were a socialist. Technically if the film was made better it could have made you interested but it never gives you a great idea why you should care about that part. The second part is the love story which you could care about if you cared about the characters I did not for many reasons. One reason was the problems in their romance came from their communistic free love ideas, another big reason I found it hard to care about people whose work help lead to such horrible institutions as the Gulag in Russia. I just did not care about the people, the actors were fine at creating people I did not care about.

Oscar nomination Best Actor Warren Beatty 3/5- Fairly standard Beatty performance. He does not do more than you would expect. He gives the type of performance you would usually see from him. I would have expected a greater difference from Clyde in Bonnie and clyde but there is not that much of a difference.

Oscar nomination Best Supporting Actor Jack Nicholson 4/5- Jack Nicholson plays Eugene O'Neil quite well, and strives very far away from his usual routine. He actually gives the only character I thought had more depth than many of the other characters. He also shed his normal film persona which Keaton and Beatty did not really do.
