Good subject but too boring.
1.5/4 stars

A unfortunately boring film. I like the subject and the idea behind the film but the way it is played out is all too boring. Paul Schofield is great as Thomas of Aquatine but no one else sticks out. Robert Shaw I felt really under played as King Henry the 8th, he should have been just a little more flamboyant. The problem with the movie is it is one boring conversation after another than another. The only really good part of the film is the end court room scene which works well, but that is it. One last note is there is an odd lack of any music, I guess they wanted to keep it as much of a play as possible.

Oscar Win Best Actor Paul Schofield 5/5- Schofield is great as Thomas here and he is brilliant in every single scene he is in the whole film. He commands every scene perfectly and well unfortunately the film around him is not directed as well as he acts. He is terrific in a completely understated role.

Oscar Nominee Best Supporting Actor Robert Shaw 2/5- Shaw is very disappointing in his only Oscar Nomination. He fails to make Henry interesting in any way and it actually hurts the film on the whole. He gives to calm performance actually in a character that needs to be a little louder after all he is a king. Shaw is a great actor but makes the wrong moves in this film.
