Shoot yourself instead of the cat

A snails-paced, melodramatic mess with overbearing performances, whether it be Beulah Bondi's bible-thumping wretch, Robert Mitchum's soulless ranch-owner or drunken pervert Philip Tonge; the photography is good, but this is a repetitive bore (and don't expect to ever see the 'cat'). Final Grade: D
