Plot: The machinations of the classes in early twentieth century Britain are illustrated through the interplay between three families: the Schlegels, a free-spirited set of siblings; the Wilcoxes, part of the landed gentry; and the Basts, a struggling lower-class couple. When Mrs. Wilcox bequeaths her beloved house, Howards End, to Margaret Schlegel on her deathbed, her family sets out to stymie their matriarch's final wish.
