It may not be original, but it was fun viewing the story of a tight knit family. To create an effective horror flick, one doesn't need gore, senseless violence or horrific monsters. Definitely not for everybody's taste or liking, but provides the fear factor for horror fanatics. Renai and Josh Lambert (Rose Byrne and Patrick Wilson) moved to a new house since something goes wrong. Their son Dalton (Ty Simpkins) suffers from a coma, Josh's mother calls on Elise Reiner (Lin Shaye) to check on an ongoing concern. Tucker and Specs reminded this critic of the Ghostbusters, scare tactics of Paranormal Activity, Poltergeist and The original Exorcist.

The score definitely aids with the picture's mood coupled with the spectacular acting of Rose Byrne. Lin Shaye is an effective support as well. Spectacular editing, camera work and gadgets were well utilized. Screenplay was good with lines from: Specs - "Words are worth a thousand words, too." Josh - "You may be a superhero, buddy, but you're not invincible." and Renai - " I think the universe is just trying to see how far I can bend before I break." Aside from the obvious scare tactics, the movie boasts its themes of family, facing fears, souls and trust. Insidious was entertaining from beginning to it's surprising conclusion, that will have you goosebumps, which for its genre.
