Dawn of the Dead (1979) review

The deceased human beings transform into flesh-eating zombies. Its epidemic is unknown and it has spread around the country. Roger and Peter, in which both are SWAT, escape Philadelphia with Francine and Stephen. They all try to survive in a mall. Most of the characters lack common sense as such the zombie nearing and girl just staring while another empties his gun by shooting shadows. Despite this irritating aspect, the gore, direction and themes of the film resonate. Subjects on consumer society, voracity, survival, humanity, death and even racism were exhibited. Screenplay was good with quotes: Old priest – “When the dead walk, señores, we must stop the killing... or lose the war.” Stephen – “Some kind of instinct. Memory, of what they used to do. This was an important place in their lives.” Humor was well injected and the color brought out the necessary gore and interesting make-up. Dawn of the Dead spawned numerous imitations, which is evident of its impact in the horror genre.
