Hostel: Part II

Hostel Part II is the next level above Hostel. Hostel is a film in which critics called torture porn because the film had amazing levels of both sex and violence. Hostel II elevates everything we saw in the first movie and pushes it to the extreme. While we do have new characters and deaths, it is almost a remake of the first film. As it deals with the same aspect of bidding for torture, it is both scary and gory.

Eli Roth is the man which brought us Cabin Fever, one of my all time favorite horror movies. Cabin Fever jump started Eli's career into film, and afterwards he brough us Hostel. Eli is like a god to many horror fans around the world, mainly the horror fans who love gore. Cabin Fever had some really good gore gags and the blood and makeup effects were used very well. With Hostel, we get a more serious tone of things, and the first Hostel is nowhere near the amount of gore that is featured in this sequel. Hostel Part II comes out slower in the pacing and such, but it is scarier then the first. We have some really good suspense moments and some scenes which just make us feel sick. Including the last death of the film which makes every guy curl into the fetile position and cry.

The thing which I really liked about the director's approach to the film is the camera moves. Usually the horror films these days get really shaky and unbalanced and there are certain points which it really gets annoying. In Hostel II, the camera is very smooth and captures in the scenery and action very well. When it came to building suspense and creep moments, Eli did a great job. The script was almost as good as it shouldve been, but it kind of lacked in some areas where the dialogue could have been so much better.

A lot of people proclaim Hostel II as a horrible movie, but I have to disagree. Hostel II pushes the limit of filmmaking and Eli took a big risk in releasing this movie, expecially with the content that is featured inside. A great horror flick.
