Rambo: First Blood

Review - First Blood (1982)

When John Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) came home from Vietnam, he expected to be treated as the hero he was. Little did he know how few people supported the war, which leads him on a cat and mouse chase across the Oregon mountain terrain in “First Blood.”

In what seems like a rather stand-alone movie, we first meet Rambo, a now well known icon of action movies, and we see his first adventure before he becomes the U.S. military’s secret weapon. Sly Stallone seems to really enjoy the action drama, and I don’t blame him, ‘cause he’s really good at it. He knows what it takes to make a great action hero.

The plot does seem to waver a bit near the end, but it does have a good plot, which I was a little surprised about. My perception of Rambo before watching this was that he just sort of ran around killing people for an hour and half, but, and I’m trying not to spoil anything here, that’s far from the truth. The character is solid and the acting is impressive.

“First Blood” is not your average action flick. Things blow up, yes, but you’d just have to watch it to understand. It kind of reminded me of “The Fugitive,” but they’re two completely different movies.

Acting: 8/10

Video/Editing: 8/10
Audio/Music: 8/10

Final Score: 8/10
