After Dark

A witch.  A talisman.  A curse.

These are the main elements in this independent film by James Ian Mair—co-founder of Moonlight Films.  This 2013 film was written, produced, edited and directed by James Ian Mair.  The new film is co-directed and co-produced by James Stevenson.

The well laid out music scores for the movie were written and conducted by Virgil Franklin.  A band that goes by the name of ‘Naildriven’ wrote and produced several original songs for this film. A young Star Trek fan is the main member of this band.

The main plot of the story centers on a curse that a Salem witch laid upon the Weaver clan many years past.  The witch was killed for witchcraft and her curse was wrought upon the Weaver clan to enact revenge upon the family line for the manner of death that had befallen her.  Part of her power lay in a talisman, which was broken into several parts and scattered abroad so it could not be used for evil ever again.  In the present day, we find a doctor whose daughter has been killed by a gang of rapists.  He learns of the talisman and of its power and wishes to acquire all the pieces of the talisman in order to resurrect his daughter.  The catch to the story lies in the fact that the last piece of the talisman is in the witch’s grave.   Any who go near her grave are killed by the witch’s vengeful spirit.

The music scores during the graveyard scene and during the murders in the graveyard were very appropriate.  The music helped keep up the suspenseful tone of the scene.  When looking at transitioning between scenes—it was very well done with fade in and fade out.  The ending was very well done for magical effect and story tone.

Moonlight Films will be releasing two new films in the near future:  Meridian”—a thriller with religious undertones; and “Weaver’s Crossing”—a family drama.  Check out the Moonlight Film’s website for further information on these and other films.  For an independent film company, “After Dark” was very well done.  This writer/producer shows great promise in the field—a man to keep an eye on as he ventures further into the world of film production.
