I would imagine it will be just like the others, which is good. Anyone know why Peter Jackson decided to reattach himself to the movie. At one point he was stepping away? Was it because his career sucked without the Hobbits?

I very excitedly anticipated the release of the Star Wars prequels, and I was let down until Episode III. I like prequels, but I don't think they could match our expectations.  Only time will tell, of course. I like the trailer for the Hobbit, but there will be new charcters and a different story arc, so it is best not to enter the theater with any expectations at all. I'll treat it as it's own and enjoy it as such.

I think it will do great numbers at the box office and satisfy most fans of the material, at the least.  I'll be looking forward to it, with prior knowledge, because it's the only book in the LOTR series that I've actually read.

I'm going to side with Nick for the moment - if only because I don't think the source material is as strong. I have high hopes for Jackson being able to make something great out of it, but he will be hard-pressed to create something as memorable. Obviously I'll be there opening night, regardless.

Peter Jackson is held at such high expectations due to the Lord of the Rings, that I think this movie cannot possibly live up to the hype.  It will be good, but never surpass LOTR.

I think it has a chance to be better than The Lord of The Rings, mostly because Jackson will be able to concentrate more on one character vs trying to fit in several different groups. Also, it wont have 800 endings like the LOTR trilogy.

Now that the first trailer has hit - any thoughts? I know, book wise anyway, The Hobbit is on the lighter side of things compared to The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. However, it looks like the films will not be taking that same angle (what with the ominous Dwarven chanting - Heigh-Ho this is not).Do you think it can match the success of the LOTR trilogy? In my opinion this film has even more to live up to than The Dark Knight Rises in terms of comparing it to its predecessor. It will be a tough feat to accomplish, but I'm anticipating the results.
