Review: The Amazing Spider-Man

Ever since Sony announced that Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy was going to be rebooted, the Spidey-fans around the globe were either excited, horrified, or mid-line, eager to see what director Marc Webb will do with the series and what directions he is going to take. I was mid-line with this reboot thing. For the most part, I liked Raimi's Spider-Man films. I really liked the first one, I really, really liked the second one, and the third one... let's not get started on that. So I was intrigued to see what will go on here. Now that I've finally seen the film, I'm happy to say that I'm satisfied with the outcome.

Andrew Garfield (The Social Network) plays Peter Parker, and he portrays the character very well. Infact, it's a pretty fantastic portrayal. Garfield adds so much more to …

Promising Start to a New Spider-Man Series

Unknown - wrote on 07/05/2012

While 'Amazing Spider-Man' does cover similar story elements found in Sam Raimi's first Spider-Man movie, it is still it's own film and serves up a completely different take on the title character. In this version there is more attention to backstory, characters/relationships and drama (which I enjoyed the most). The romance and emotional scenes were surprisingly effective. The action and visual effects were top tier. I also liked that this was a much more faithful adaptation of the source material. My only complaints would be the redundancy in retelling the origin story (something that I can't really fault the movie for) and the fact that a lot of the movie was setting ground-work for future sequels. But, overall, this was a highly entertaining and emotionally satisfying …

Spider-Man Not Quite Amazing, but is a Solid Film

It seems are super hero reboots just can't wait. It took 19 years to reboot Superman, and eight years to wash the stank of Batman & Robin out before Batman Begins revved things back up. With Spider-man, it has been just five years since Tobey Maguire went all emo in Spider-Man 3, and now a new hero steps up to the plate.

The Amazing Spider-Man looks to follow its own path - some familiar characters (Uncle Ben, Aunt May and, of course, Peter Parker) show up, but this film takes a somewhat different route. Here Parker, played by The Social Network's Andrew Garfield, is more of a brainiac at school rather than some social outcast. Garfield brings the right mix of nerd cool to the role - Maguire never played the whole school angle up much, but Garfield fits right in (even if he's too old …

Action Packed Reboot

Nick - wrote on 07/03/2012

The Amazing Spider-Man hits theaters only 5 years after the end of the last rebooted series featuring Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker and Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane. This last series, which ran from 2002 to 2007 was a decent trilogy, full of lots of action using new age computer effects. So why start up the series all over again? I kind of compare it to James Bond movies, where there are countless stories they can tell and they don't care if the actor who plays Bond changes. Because... people will still go and watch it. The sames holds true with The Amazing Spider-Man, it is being released at the optimal time, July 4th, and people want to go watch an action packed blockbuster over their holiday.

The Amazing Spider-Man features Peter Parker played by Andrew Garfield (from The Social …
