There's nothing I can really say about this film that hasn't been said already in numerous reviews. Even though this film is 70 years old, you can still see it's influences on film today. Everything about Citizen Kane stands out to me - the casting, script, direction, cinematography, score, etc. Seeing the characters try to discover who Rosebud is becomes a little anti-climatic as everyone pretty much knows the answer, however, it doesn't distract from appreciating one of the greatest films of all time.

There is a reason why this movie is number 1 on both of AFI's Top 100 movie lists. While I don't think it's as good as Casablanca, it is a marvel of a film and I believe one of the first films to ever use flashbacks as a way of telling stories. Definite must see to film buffs.

I first watched this film in an intro to film class and the professor told me that this is widely considered my many critics to be a perfect movie. A lot of people cannot get past the begining, however if you can get into this movie and follow it you can appreciate it as the masterpiece that it is. Orson Welles gives a phenominal performance, and the simple word Rosebud is so haunting right until the end of the movie.

Next to the Birth of a Nation, this is probably the most over-rated movie in movie history. The plot is incredibly boring. The supposedly great plot twist at the end is a huge let-down. It is at least, however, a decent movie. But, it just doesn't rise above decent, in my opinion. It is far from the great movie that everyone seems to think it is.

Orson Welles, being 24 when he directed and starred in this movie, I must say has moved to #1 on my list of best actors ever. Wonderfully shot, this film revolutionized the entirety of film history, playing not only with incredibly innovative camera angles and storytelling techniques, but also with realistic acting and powerhouse writing. AFI has named this the greatest American movie of all time, and after seeing it, I'm tempted to agree with them. The quasi-biography of Orson Welles himself in a story about William Randolph Hearst, "Citizen Kane" is thrilling and has a rich history of its release. Beautifully sculpted, this is Orson Welles, one of the greatest innovators of cinema in history.

This film is overrated but it still has some very special moments within it. The film does have the flaws of much of the acting is too theatrical, and overacting, or simply incredibly dull underacting. Still Orson Welles himself gives as fairly strong performance, as does his long time main stay Joseph Cotton. The film does tell an interesting story of a man, with its incredibly unique look that simply cannot be copied. It is another classic film where the subtlety of the film grows on you, there are glaring flaws, and the reception is too positive but there are definite strengths.

AFI recently named this the number one movie of all time. Naturally, as a young cinephile, I just had to check this out. I'm glad I did because it was a unique experience. I've seen a few movies from the forties, thirties and yes, even the twenties and 1910's. but so very few of them matched the intensity, characterization, and strong acting of this movie. Although it's a bit dated, I can't help but appreciate the script and how strong this film holds up overall. I can understand why a lot of people think that this movie revolutionized the film industry. This movie definitely reminded me of "The Aviator" and the more recent character biopics out there. It's worth checking out if you're up to watching a classic movie.
