I never seen the original Sherlock Holmes and I do not know if that would make a difference on my review but I will be renting it soon so maybe this review will get re-edited ? I gave this film 3 stars because I liked the plot, special effects, writing and screen play.Robert Downey Jr has been able to catch my attention in many different films as of the late because of his versatility in the roles he has played. I watched this film with my wife, her brother, his girlfriend, inwhich his girl friend is from London. She helped with my review because I asked her alot of questions about the movie reminding her of home and she said it was quite realistic. We all enjoyed the plot and the humor in Downeys role !

This movie starts out full of action, and really doesn't dissapoint from the beginning. The acting is solid, the story good, and the special effects are strong as well. At times, the storyline does become a bit confusing, but it eventually all ties together. Some of the fight scenes are a little over the top, but keep you entertained nonetheless. Overall, this was a movie that was well worth seeing, and I look forward to the sequel that it so obviously sets up for.

It's probably the best movie of 2009. I really liked how all of the supposed magic in the movie turned out to have a scientific explanation for it, not a supernatural one. It made it soooooooooo much better. But, I guess that's what Sherlock Holmes is known for, right? The one thing about this movie that I really hated though was that Holmes never once says, "Elementary, my dear Watson!"

An enjoyable, but fairly slight film. It's biggest strength was the casting: Downey Jr makes for an excellent Holmes, and has real chemistry with Jude Law's Watson. Mark Strong and Rachel McAdams are fine in their supporting roles, but the focus of the movie is very much on the main partnership. The story is fine, and races along quite nicely, with enjoyable action scenes and a script without any major problems. You certainly shouldn't be bored for the films duration, although I'd be suprised if you could remember that much about it in a weeks time. Overall, the film suceeds in reintroducing these iconic characters to a new audience, and does so well enough that I'd be up for the ineviatable sequel when it arrives.

You won't get bored watching this movie. There's plenty of action and comedy and the main characters are characters themselves. But, unfortunately, this movie is forgettable. Let's hope the next one has a better story.

The relationship between Holmes and Watson is what works best here. The mostly slo-mo action scenes are done well, but feel unnecessary. The 'crime solving' aspect is still present, but the mystery doesn't really drive the story and it comes out being more of an afterthought in the end.

Guy Ritchie has made an interesting an fun version of Sherlock Holmes. Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law are great as Holmes and Watson, though I was less found of the female characters who seemed a bit boring. The action was good as well as the mysterious twists. Overall, this was a fun modern take on Sherlock Holmes.
