A good enough film that shows you a dysfunctional family dealing with their dysfunction more or less. This one works in that way with some good performances and is good enough if you like that type of film. The flaw is some of the wedding stuff is repetitive especially if you have been to a wedding, and it goes for realism but fakes because of the two families in the movie are not particularly realistic. Good enough though for its very specific genre.

Rosemary DeWitt and especially Anne Hathaway soar in this sometimes intense, often affecting, but much too detailed and rambling indie drama; it does however contain some of the most realistic relationship complications ever committed to film, like the decayed connection between mother and daughter and the unyeilding love of a father who must love his children at all costs. Final Grade: B+

Arguably Jonathan Demme's best film since The Silence of the Lambs. Anne Hathaway should (and probably will) receive an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of a recovering drug addict who leaves rehab to attend her sister's wedding. A few scenes drag on for longer than they need to, but the brilliant acting and terrific script are more than enough to make up for it.
